Faith, Family, & Friends

Elyse shared this message about the one year anniversary of her accident:

Today marks one year since my drag racing accident. It’s hard to put into words how I feel about that day. It definitely changed my life. It was awful and scary. But it also could have been so much worse. I still can’t believe my back snapped in half and 36 hours later I was able to walk. The doctors and nurses were in awe that I could even feel my legs and feet in the ER. I was truly blessed and can’t explain why besides I must have some very fast guardian angels. We also had some awesome medical staff and a world-class surgeon (thanks to Jason and Tara Dickey for making sure I ended up at UNMC). Faith, family, and friends are what got me through this past year. My determination to put one foot in front of the other, follow the physical therapists instructions, and not waste time feeling sorry for myself are what helped me accelerate the healing process. As I’ve said before I couldn’t have done it without Chris and our parents that came to stay with us. Also the outpouring of love from the motorcycle and racing communities encouraged me along the way. I’m so thankful to be back to a (mostly) normal life and back doing what I love.
